Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a holistic medical system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. It focuses on preventing illness and restoring balance through personalised nutrition, lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, and daily routines. Rather than treating symptoms alone, Ayurveda aims to identify and address the root cause of imbalance.

What happens during an Ayurvedic consultation?

Your first consultation lasts approximately 90 minutes. We'll discuss your medical history, diet, digestion, sleep, stress levels, lifestyle, and overall wellbeing. I'll also assess your unique Ayurvedic constitution (Prakriti) and current imbalances (Vikriti) before creating a personalised plan tailored to your needs.

What conditions can Ayurveda support?

Ayurveda may help support people experiencing:

Stress and anxiety, digestive discomfort and bloating, hormonal imbalances, low energy and fatigue, poor sleep, skin concerns, weight management, seasonal allergies, joint discomfort, general wellbeing and disease prevention.

Ayurveda complements conventional healthcare and should not replace medical advice or treatment from your GP or healthcare provider.

What are the three doshas?

According to Ayurveda, everyone has a unique combination of three dosha:

Vata – governs movement, the nervous system and circulation.

Pitta – governs digestion, metabolism and transformation.

Kapha – governs structure, stability and immunity.

Understanding your dosha can help you make informed choices about food, exercise, daily routines, and self-care.

Is Ayurveda suitable for everyone?

Ayurveda can benefit people of all ages by promoting healthy habits and supporting overall wellbeing. However, recommendations are always personalised, and any existing medical conditions or treatments will be taken into account. Ayurveda complements conventional healthcare and is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or emergency treatment.

How is Ayurveda different from conventional medicine?

Conventional medicine often focuses on diagnosing and treating disease. Ayurveda takes a personalised approach, looking at the whole person rather than individual symptoms. It considers your constitution, digestion, lifestyle, environment, and emotional wellbeing to help restore balance and support long-term health.

How do I know my dosha?

You can begin by taking my Free Dosha Quiz, which provides an introduction to your Ayurvedic constitution. For a more accurate assessment, I recommend booking a personalised consultation, where we'll explore your Prakriti (constitution) and any current imbalances.

Are herbal remedies included?

Where appropriate, I may recommend traditional Ayurvedic herbs from trusted suppliers as part of your personalised wellness plan. Herbal remedies are not included in the consultation fee.

How many consultations will I need?

This depends on your health goals and the complexity of your concerns. Some people benefit from a single consultation, while others prefer ongoing support through one of my personalised wellness programmes to help create sustainable lifestyle changes.
